How your Icekap works
Cryotherapy is the general use of cold temperatures in medical therapy or the removal of heat from a body part. Its goal is to decrease cellular metabolism, increase cellular survival, decrease inflammation and reduce pain. During a migraine the blood vessels in the head dilate causing pain. These vessels become swollen with blood and thus put pressure on the nerves surrounding the vessels. This pressure causes the nerve to send pain signals to the brain, resulting in a headache or migraine. Both heat and cooling therapies use temperature manipulation to reduce migraine/ headache pain. Cold therapy (cryotherapy) is believed to cause the swollen blood vessels to constrict, thus reducing the pressure of the migraine/ headache pain. Heat therapy increases blood flow, increasing the amount of fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients to the head. Icekap heat therapy can also be used to treat cold and ‘flu symptoms and even hangovers.

A calming and soothing blend of Peppermint and Lavender Essential Oils has been formulated specifically for Icekap. Many headaches are stress related. Lavender oil has calming properties which aid relaxation and reduce anxiety. Peppermint oil has cooling properties that create a cooling and soothing effect. Peppermint oil will cool the headache to the touch similar to a liniment for injury.
Distilled essential oils have been employed as medical treatments since the eleventh century and are 100% natural. Please use caution if you have sensitive skin. Essential Oil can be diluted with water or Coconut Oil.
Icekap Pressure System
Some migraine/headache sufferers feel relief when pressure is applied to their head. Icekap has an adjustable pressure band which allows the user to adjust the pressure of the cap to whatever tension they find most comfortable and effective.
With this band the user can apply pressure to the base of the neck (occipital region) and the forehead (frontal lobe) to sooth the 'pounding' sensation in the key areas during a migraine.
